Fishing: Time for Break-Up
Well ladies and gentlemen, it is officially time for break-up in Interior Alaska. The first signs have happened. The Chena River in town is normally the first to break up, with some spots thawing rapidly in late winter due to some industrial zones. This would be those places along Phillips Field Road and River Road between Peger Ave. and the Downtown Bridges. This year, the Chena River has finally broken up and a massive amount of ice is flowing down river. I was just out there fishing with Samantha yesterday and we can attest to this. We were at the Nordale Bridge and if the river wasn't forced into fast water channels it was breaking the ice apart and carrying it down river. In other Break-Up news, the Nenana Ice Classic is still on, despite the tripod falling. Every year, a tripod is put out on the ice of the Tanana River with a cable hooked to a stop clock.
