FNF: my observations from Ukraine

Today's Friday Night Fights blog will be more real-world, as I'll talk about my observations of the Ukraine War that is going on right now.  Needless to say I am none to pleased by how this is being handled, nor how my weird brain is predicting the outcomes of this.  This may sound like a rant or an opinion piece, and that's fine by me.

------------------------------------------

First on my observations of how it is being handled.  This is not 19-teens.  This is not World War 1.  Stop treating it like it.  Everything I learned in history class about WW1 growing up through the 80s and 90s, and everything I learned as an adult reading past wars as a hobby clearly defines this as a moment where we didn't learn, and now history is repeating itself.

Russia invades Ukraine.  Russia tells its people one thing, but also cut off comms from the rest of the world.  From what I could gather from the web, the Russian people might as well be back in the early 1900's with regards to communication to the outside world.

I recently watched a video on Fox News the other day.  A Ukrainian Man living on the outskirts of Kiev called his father, who lives just outside of Moscow.  He was talking with his dad and it took several phone calls over several days for the man's dad to realize that the Russian Media is in a blackout.  I firmly believe that the man still did not believe his son.  It's not that the two were enemies - there was a genuine bond there between father and son.

WHEN YOU CHOOSE YOUR STATE MEDIA OVER THE OBSERVATIONS OF FAMILY MEMBERS, YOU NEED TO TAKE A GOOD HARD LOOK AT YOUR LIFE CHOICES.

Then you add some of the atrocities that Russian Generals are doing, knowing full well the rest of the world "will only sanction the Russian people" instead of actually jumping in.  Knowing that no one will bring pain, punishment, or military retaliation to the Russian Soldiers in Ukraine, there are people being gunned down in the streets and weapons that challenge the term "War Crimes."

Another story I listened to on BBC Radio.  A man was in Donetsk in Southern Ukraine and his wife and kids were in Kiev.  He watched his kid's gps data abruptly stop and got concerned.  That's when he received that next-of-kin notification about his wife and kids being gunned down by Russian Soldiers.

They've resulted in gunning down civilians now????

What is the rest of the world doing though???  Sanction Sanction Sanction.  No hard troops in Ukraine, but no stopping volunteers from joining the Ukraine Foreign Legion either.

Sure sounds like World War 1 to me.  "France, we won't help you, but here is food, medicine, and weapons to support you.  We can't make your problems our problems without being detriment to us and our neighbors."

Sound familiar???

----------------------------------------------

Secondly, I'm waiting on that "tech bubble" to pop and change the war, and our way of life, FOREVER.

Again, I refer back to World War 1.  The Mark IV tank was a revolutionizing piece of machinery.  It allowed troops to cross trenches and battlefields without small arms fire picking them off.  It gave the defending military a sizeable advantage over the aggressing enemy and minimizing casualties.

There was also the evolution from steam to electricity for powering things like engines, turrets, etc., the use of radio waves, and the evolution of weaponry.

So my question is this:  what is our current "tech bubble" and when will it "pop"???   The "pop" i'm referring to may also be considered a "flashpoint in a war."

To further analyze this concept, I look at what the world was working on prior to Russia's invasion.  All of this is still continuing, however their impact and objective have shifted during this war.

** the great race to the moon.  Everyone trying to get to the moon for resource mining, colonization, or other "reasons"

** the satellite race / competition between SpaceX and all its competitors.  Who can put satellites into space, control and manage them.

** the internet and cybersecurity.  Who can hack whom?  Which networks can be breached, controlled, or otherwise compromised?  How to defend against enemy nation states?

** the middle east (nuclear) arms race.  Just because Ukraine is being invaded by Russia does not mean the Israelis and Palestinians have stopped their conflicts, or the racial hatred from Iran to Israel.  It's just not on the mainstream news anymore.  With the AEU, Saudis, Egypt, Iran, etc. being in the general neighborhood of Ukraine, it's only a matter of time before someone develops a nuke and uses it on Israel.  How will they develop it?

** the sun project, as I like to call it.  There are several labs in the world experimenting on trying to "make sustainable energy" and one that comes to mind is a lab in China that is attempting to create an artificial sun through Fusion (as opposed to Fission).  What will China do with this if they get sucked into the war?  How will the ability to replicate solar energy change the nuclear game?

** where did all of Japan's life-size hydraulic operated gunpla go?  they took them all down a few months back, with no public knowledge.  Could we expect mechs to start walking on their own if Japan gets sucked in?

--------------------------------------------------------

Finally, my predictions on some outcomes of all of this shenaniganry.  I firmly believe if Europe erupts to beyond Ukraine v. Russia, one or more of this will happen:

**  nuclear bombs nuking major cities.  We are talking Fallout, Book of Eli kind of scorched earth, walk the wasteland kind of environment

**  something big falls out of the sky and levels a city.  Satellite, telescope, or even the ISS space station.  This will lead down the path of a "gundam universe" style of "Economic Blocks"

**  something will happen, either by our own hands or most likely out of our control - natural disaster, meteor/comet collision from space, etc. - that brings us all together as one unified world.

In all these scenarios, another world war is part of the equation.

Buckle Up Everyone.  We are in for a wild ride.
