Random Word: Fruition

Image
Here is another gloriously Random Word post.  I asked one of my co-workers for a word, so today's Random Word will be "Fruition."  As always, I will take the word and apply it to tabletop gaming, fishing, and 3D printing. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fruition is defined by Webster's Dictionary as: 1: pleasurable use or possession : ENJOYMENT the sweet fruition of an earthly crown — Christopher Marlowe 2a: the state of bearing fruit the fields needed rain for fruition — Pearl Buck b: REALIZATION source:   Fruition Definition & Meaning - Merriam-Webster ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fruition in Tabletop Gaming Several aspects, based on the description above, comes to mind with regards to tabletop gaming.   The first one is that of completion, the act of "bearing fruit."  Wh...

FNF: my observations from Ukraine

Today's Friday Night Fights blog will be more real-world, as I'll talk about my observations of the Ukraine War that is going on right now.  Needless to say I am none to pleased by how this is being handled, nor how my weird brain is predicting the outcomes of this.  This may sound like a rant or an opinion piece, and that's fine by me. ------------------------------------------ First on my observations of how it is being handled.  This is not 19-teens.  This is not World War 1.  Stop treating it like it.  Everything I learned in history class about WW1 growing up through the 80s and 90s, and everything I learned as an adult reading past wars as a hobby clearly defines this as a moment where we didn't learn, and now history is repeating itself. Russia invades Ukraine.  Russia tells its people one thing, but also cut off comms from the rest of the world.  From what I could gather from the web, the Russian people might as well be back in the early 1...

Random Word: Murmaider

Image
For today's Random Word, i asked my gaming group.  Mr. Randall was the first to pipe up with the word "murmaider,"  the title of a song from the band Dethklok from Metalocalypse animated show aired on Adult Swim.                                                                  (album cover courtesy of Amazon.com) Listen to Murmaider by Dethklok here How I can talk about this word and things associated with it to the subjects of tabletop gaming, fishing, and 3d printing will be tricky, so here we go. From a tabletop gaming perspective, the word murmaider is a play on words of the words 'mermaid' and 'murder.'   Mermaids are a taurian race (half man half beast) of ocean dwelling fish people, with the upper torso of a human(oid) and the lower portion, normally depicted from...

FISHING SCIENCE EXPERIMENT: Water Beads for Fishing DIY

Image
OVERVIEW: I've had this odd thought of using Orbeez or similar Water Beads for Fishing.  This odd thought spawned several questions about these little things.  For the rest of the documents, I will simply refer to them as Orbs. I will label this a Fishing Science Experiment - and if all goes well enough, more experiments will happen in the future. Note:  this will have a lot of science-like jargon in it, and it may seem a bit dry in its final version. HYPOTHESIS:    Can Orbs be used for Fishing as an artificial bait? OTHER RELATED QUESTIONS: ** What is an Orb made of? ** Will they only absorb water?  Oils?  Juices?  Fuel?  Urine?  - THIS QUESTION WILL DEFINITELY SPAWN INTO OTHER SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS **  If the water is infused (such as tea, coffee, etc), will the infusion transfer into the Orbs?   **  Will absorbed liquids leech out if placed in water? **  How will the Orbs react when being pierced for an extended...

Fishing: Google Maps is your Friend

Image
As the old saying goes "a friend in need is a friend indeed" and, as I've experienced this firsthand, Google Maps is that friend.  How so you ask?  I'll give some brief points and then elaborate below. ** Map Spotting Locations ** Safety ** Navigation First point is MAP SPOTTING LOCATIONS .   What do I mean by that you ask?  You can technically do this technique with anything reference mapping so long as you have knowledge about what your looking at.  It's a time-honored skill taught to most militaries and their strategists.  Wars have been won, cities conquered, firefighters saving cities from wildfires, rescue crews saving people stuck in perilous locations, and people traveling from point A to point B and not dying in the process.......  all from Map Spotting. Map Spotting in a nutshell is looking at a map, its surrounding terrain, apply your knowledge of the subject at hand, and make an educated decision based on the data from the map an...

FNF: Why I left the D&D Facebook Groups

On this edition of Friday Night Fights, I want to write about a "fight" that is a little more personal.  This time, it is between my love of the game called Dungeons and Dragons and my perceptive view of others' views on the game. First, I want to make one thing perfectly clear:  I love this game.  It has allowed me to accomplish so much on the social levels that as a social outcast most of my life I would have never been able to do otherwise. It has encouraged me to allow my imagination to flourish.  From that imagination, a massive homebrew world was created, each continent, zone, region, biome, city, state, small town, run-down village, barbarian camp, past cultures, past histories, and the like to be fleshed out, little by little, over the course of 20+ years. However, in the light of Dungeons and Dragons becoming "maintstream," I have developed a bit of internal conflict I cannot resolve with myself.  It is this conflict that I will address and the re...

Fishing DIY: 3D printed lures prep for the water (water sealing)

Spring Is Coming. Well, this week is the first week where temps will be above 0 degrees F.  We might get  "lucky" and have one final "Snowpocalyse" between now and April, but I doubt it.  10 days of above zero temps is the first sign of spring. I'll give it until mid-March before I begin to check lakes and rivers for melted, exposed water to start fishing in.   This temp change is only more motivation to continue my craft and prepare for fishing, which is the purpose of this post here.  A lot of my lure prep involves 3D printed lure parts, and lures themselves, which is covered on my YouTube Channel. However, there is a lot of talk about "making 3D printed parts waterproof if exposed to water."  Face it, there's no easy answer to this, but PLA in general by itself is good enough.  If a lot of my parts were just bareboned 3D printed, then yes I would say i'm good and fish with it.  Unfortunately, that is not the case, as I print the part, pain...
